  • A demilitarized zone, DMZ is an area in which treaties or agreements between nations, military powers or contending
    groups forbid military installations, activities or personnel. A DMZ often lies along an established frontier or boundary
    between two or more military powers or alliances. A DMZ may sometimes form a de facto international border, such
    as the 38th parallel between North and South Korea.
    The Joint Security Area (JSA) is the only portion of the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) where North and South Korean
    forces stand face-to-face. It is often called the "Truce Village" in both the media and various military accounts.
    The JSA is used by the two Koreas for diplomatic engagements and was also the site of military negotiations between
    North Korea and the United Nations Command (UNC)
